February was chosen because both Abraham Lincoln (President of the U.S. who freed slaves during the Civil War), and Frederick Douglas (a black who worked to end slavery) have birthdays in February.
Volunteers can access the application on the district website ( http://www.beaufort.k12.sc.us ) by clicking on the "Parents" picture at the top of the page. The "Volunteer" menu item on the left will take them to the volunteer information and a link to the Winocular application system.
